Dudley Council required a permanent solution to prevent unauthorised vehicles from accessing a residential green space whilst maintaining safe public access for the local community. Aremco Barriers designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke heavy-duty galvanised steel swing barrier complete with a pedestrian access gap, delivering long-term protection for the site whilst improving safety, reducing maintenance requirements and preserving the enjoyment of the space for future generations.
When unauthorised vehicles repeatedly gained access to a residential green space, Dudley Council required a permanent solution capable of protecting both the local environment and the surrounding community. Repeated vehicle access had caused damage to grassed areas, created safety concerns for children and pedestrians and resulted in ongoing maintenance costs for the Council.
Aremco Barriers designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke heavy-duty steel swing barrier specifically to prevent unauthorised vehicle access whilst maintaining safe and convenient pedestrian access for members of the public. The completed installation now provides long-term protection for the site whilst preserving its accessibility and enjoyment for the local community.
Protecting public green spaces presents unique challenges for local authorities throughout the United Kingdom. Open spaces are intended to provide safe environments for recreation, exercise and community activities, yet they can become vulnerable to damage where unrestricted vehicle access is possible.
In this instance, unauthorised vehicles were repeatedly accessing the residential field, damaging grassed areas and creating avoidable safety concerns for local residents. Temporary solutions had failed to provide an effective long-term deterrent, resulting in ongoing maintenance requirements and unnecessary costs.
The Council required a highly visible and durable vehicle access control solution that would permanently restrict unauthorised vehicles whilst ensuring authorised users, including maintenance teams and emergency services, could gain access whenever required.
Importantly, the solution also needed to maintain safe and unrestricted pedestrian access so that members of the public could continue to enjoy the green space without compromise.
Following discussions regarding the operational requirements of the site, our fabrication team designed and manufactured a bespoke heavy-duty steel swing barrier specifically for the project.
Manufactured from heavy-duty mild steel and hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461, the barrier has been designed to provide exceptional corrosion resistance and many years of reliable service within demanding outdoor environments. The completed installation was then powder coated bright yellow (RAL 1021) to maximise visibility whilst providing an additional layer of protection against the elements.
A secure locking mechanism prevents unauthorised access whilst allowing authorised personnel to operate the barrier quickly and conveniently whenever required. To ensure accessibility remained a key consideration throughout the project, a dedicated pedestrian access gap was incorporated within the design, maintaining safe public access at all times.
By manufacturing the barrier specifically to suit the site's requirements, Dudley Council now benefits from a permanent and highly durable access control solution designed to protect both the community and the surrounding environment.
