What Is an Armco Crash Barrier?

Armco is the go‑to corrugated steel safety barrier system, guarding car‑park perimeters, warehouse walls, machinery lines, fuel zones, loading docks, and more. Built from corrugated steel beams fixed to posts (bolt‑down or cast‑in), joined with lap bolts and finished with safety ends or corner sections. It helps stop low‑to‑moderate speed knocks turning into expensive wall repairs, protects pedestrian paths, makes lanes clearer, and defines keep‑clear zones.

At-a-Glance Benefits

  • Heavy‑duty impact protection for vans, forklifts, cars, plant & site traffic.
  • Modular system for awkward sites — cut, join, step, corner, repeat.
  • Bolt‑down or cast‑in posts — slab or new pour friendly.
  • Fishtail and pedestrian‑safe ends = safer no‑snag zones.
  • Custom lengths and powder‑coat in safety yellow or corporate colours.
  • Got your own layout? Send dims and we’ll spec the parts list for you.

Standard Components

1. Beams / Rails

  • Total length: 3.5 m; effective post‑centre length: ~3.2 m.
  • Corrugated profile ~310 mm tall.
  • Gauge: 2.7 mm or 3.0 mm.
  • Hot‑dip galvanised; optional safety yellow powder‑coat.

2. Posts
Pick according to surface, traffic and budget:

  • Z‑Section Bolt‑Down: light/medium duty, quick install, small footprint.
  • RSJ / I‑Beam Bolt‑Down: medium/heavy duty, external, great impact strength.
  • Z‑Section Cast‑In: for new pours; permanent.
  • RSJ Cast‑In: heavy‑duty, HGV zones, maximum strength.
Heights: 560 mm (forklift), 610 mm (car parks), 760 mm (HGV), 1100 mm (double‑height/high‑risk zones)

3. Safety Ends & Finishing Pieces

  • Fishtail End: curved, low snag.
  • Bullnose End: rounded, neat.
  • Pedestrian‑Safe Ends: high‑vis, injury‑reducing.

4. Corners & Transitions

  • Internal/external 90° corners, plus custom angles, sweeps and step‑downs.

5. Fixings & Hardware

  • M16 lap bolts & nuts to join beams.
  • M16 post bolts & anchor bolts for posts.
  • Optional spacers/buffer strips for noise, vibration, and paint protection.

Typical Applications

Car parks (perimeters, wall/column protection, pedestrian segregation), warehouses and distribution centres (racking, dock doors, building steelwork), service yards/loading bays, industrial estates, public places like retail parks and hospitals (use fishtail/pedestrian‑safe ends).

FAQ – Armco Crash Barriers

How long is a standard beam?
3.5 m total, ~3.2 m effective (overlap included)

Indoor or outdoor use?
Works both ways — often used indoors in warehouses to stop forklifts from hitting walls and racking.

Do I need posts?
Yep — beams mount on posts (3.2 m apart is usual).

Bolt-down or cast-in?
Bolt‑down: faster on existing slabs. Cast‑in: stronger, better for new pours.

What height should I order?
560 mm (forklifts), 610 mm (car parks), 760 mm (HGV), 1100 mm (double height/high‑risk).

Are they galvanised?
Absolutely — standard components are hot‑dip galvanised for corrosion resistance.

Colour options?
Yep — powder‑coat over galvanised (RAL colours) is available.

Need design help?
You bet — send dims or site plans and we’ll put together your beam runs, post centres and full parts list.
