Why is it called Sheffield?
A modern iteration known as the "Sheffield rack" or "Sheffield stand" originated in the city of Sheffield, England. These stands typically feature a thick metal bar or tube bent into the shape of a square arch. To optimise their effectiveness, Sheffield stands should be installed within 30 meters of the area they serve, ideally in highly visible locations adjacent to high traffic routes and away from potential road hazards. They should also be easily accessible.
For accommodating two bicycles comfortably, stands should be spaced approximately 1000mm apart. When setting up multiple cycle stands, specific dimensions should be adhered to, ensuring ample space for cyclists to mount, dismount, and secure their bikes without obstruction. Additionally, the stands should have provisions for securing both wheels and the bike frame.
